Happy 2016 Pretty Polishers! I’m back today with the second color, Serenity, of the two beautiful 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year: Rose Quartz & Serenity.
I wanted to start 2016 with the Pantone Color of Year as my very first post! If you’re wondering who or what is Pantone, like I was, here is the scoop: Pantone Color Institute is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries. That is just fancy talk and another way to say “the Color Gurus, the Color Godfathers, the Color Head Honchos, the Color Kings”! These people know all about color. I think they are most famous for developing a number system for each color and swatch cards. Bottom line, if you want to know about color, check out their site. They even sell phone cases and mugs with Pantone colors!
Pantone chose Rose Quartz (13-1520) & Serenity (15-3919) as the 2016 Colors of the Year. It is the very first time that Pantone has chosen two colors as the Colors of the Year. Last year’s color was Marsala which I did a post on here. The colors this year are basically baby pink and baby/cornflower blue. The reasoning behind these two colors is to demonstrate and inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue tone. They reflect connection and wellness as well as a soothing order of sense and peace.
So let’s take a look at several examples in my polish collection of SERENITY. I covered Rose Quartz yesterday.
SPRING SHOWERS by L’Oreal
This is a periwinkle blue creme from the Haute Flowers Spring 2015 Collection. The formula is great and it is opaque in 2 easy applications. This one is probably the closest shade of the group to the Pantone Color of the Year.
SAIL LA VIE by SinfulColors
This is a robin’s egg blue creme with a slight shimmer from the Spring 2015 Collection. It has a great formula and is opaque in 2 coats.
BABE BLUE by Sally Hansen
This is a cornflower blue creme with a hint of shimmer. GORGEOUS color and fantastic formula. Opaque in 2 coats.
BOHO BLUES by China Glaze
This is a gorgeous periwinkle blue creme with NO shimmer from the Spring 2015 Road Trip Collection. The formula is great and easy to apply. It evens out in 2.5 coats because on some nails I had to do a 3rd coat.
YUMMY by ZOYA
This is a robin’s egg blue creme. Excellent formula, opaque in 2 coats.
SKY HIGH by H&M
This is a lovely perfect cornflower blue from H&M’s new beauty line. This was almost opaque in 1 coat, minimal streaking. Perfectly opaque in 2 coats.
BIKINI SO TEENY by essie
This is a perfect cornflower blue creme with slight shimmer from the Summer 2012 Collection. It’s also an exact dupe to Babe Blue. I did a DUPES post on these two here.
Some here are a bit bluer than the more purple toned Pantone Serenity. I adore all of these shades, they are so gorgeous!
Curious on past Pantone Color of the Year selections? Here they are:
Hope you enjoyed my picks for the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year. Will you be wearing any of these shades?
