Classics: OPI Red

Hi everyone! Today I have another polish to add to my “Classics” series. This is OPI Red.

OPI Red is a medium red with a surprise pink shimmer. It is not visable at all in the bottle until you apply it. It has great formula and is practically opaque in 1 coat. I did 2 coats here.

Since I was not able to find the history on this shade, I have no clue when it was released. All I know is that it is an OPI Classic shade. Since I don’t know much about this shade, here is a fun fact about OPI instead.

Have you ever wondered what O.P.I. stands for? I have!!! Well back in 1981, a man by the name of George Schaeffer purchased a dental supply company called Odontorium Products, Inc. Shortly after that, he partnered up with Suzi Weiss-Fischmann who is currently OPI’s Executive VP & Artistic Director. Together they changed the name of the company to O.P.I. (which stemmed from the original dental company name) and focused solely on nail polish products. So OPI used to be a dental supply company! Isn’t that crazy? Now, 34 years later it is a nail polish product empire. I love finding out the history and behind the “nails” facts about polish!

I must say I’m not a huge fan of the pink shimmer in OPI Red. I mean, it does make it different with the shimmer, but I imaged this to be more of a Classic Red like Coca-Cola Red. It was just not what I was expecting, but maybe you will LOVE it!

OPI is 3 FREE so it doesn’t contain Formaldehyde, Toluene, or DBP. Not all of OPI’s polishes are 3 FREE but it is said that after 2006 all are 3 FREE. It’s best to check labels if you have a concern. OPI is sold at beauty supply stores, Ulta, Target, drugstores, and Amazon or eBay if you want to find the classics.

What did you think about this polish? Do you own this classic?

Stay strong in your Pursuit!

Love the history fun fact I always wondered what it stood for. And yes I like the red with pink shimmer it’s nice it softens it up just a bit.

  • Thanks for sharing the history! That’s very interesting. For YEARS I’ve wondered what O.P.I. stood for lol.
