Feliz Dia de los Muertos!!! If you’ve been following me for some time, you know I love skulls. In particular, I love sugar skulls and this celebration makes them really special. Dia de los Muertos translated to “Day of the Dead” is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially the United States. It is celebrated starting on October 31st through November 2nd. It’s a time of prayer and remembrance of friends and family members who have died. Although the passing of a loved one is a sad and sometimes tragic event, this is one way to honor those that have gone to the other world. While I am not Mexican, I still love honoring the dead on this day.
Have you guys seen the movie “The Book of Life”? It is one of my all time favorite movies and favorite Halloween movies! It’s so colorful and joyous, exactly how the Day of the Dead should be. Disney Pixar has created a sequel to The Book of Life, called Coco which will be released on Nov 22nd in the US. I cannot wait to watch it!! You’ll probably see some sugar skull nail art around that time too.
Now that you know I’m obsessed with skulls, let’s take a look at my nails to celebrate the Day of the Dead.
For these manis I used the gorgeous Coconut Nail art nail appliqué packs that were sent to me. They are so easy to apply and extremely durable. I used more of these for Halloween here. I purposely saved these for Dia de los Muertos because they are perfect! You can get these here.
These skulls are so awesome! This is such a cool design.
They also glow in the dark which makes them even cooler.
DAY OF THE DEAD
Appropriately named, these are perfection!
I love the detailing of the skulls and designs. Remember these nail appliqués are made from 100% REAL nail polish. I love them!
These also glow in the dark which makes me love them even more.
I also wanted to do some nails with a bit of color since sugar skulls are full of beautiful flowers and bright colors so I went on eBay and found some very affordable cool water decals. These were really easy to apply, all you have to do is follow the instructions that come with the decals. You can find them on Instagram @mems1009
Detailing is also super cool. This one was my favorite out of all the sugar skulls from the bunch.
Do you celebrate the day of the dead? Which one of these was your favorite?
