My Favorite Alba Botanica Products

Happy Friday loves! I am FINALLY going to talk to you guys about my FAVE organic products. I have been wanting to do this post for so so sooo long… actually ever since I changed my blog name to The Polished Pursuit. For me, part of being polished means using organic, non toxic products and one of the most amazing brands that creates paraben free and cruelty free products is Alba Botanica.

I was first introduced to Alba Botanica by my sister about three years ago, who is an avid user of their products and converted me as well. A few years ago, she started using all organic products and schooled me on what that meant exactly. Organic means of, relating to, or derived from living organisms organic evolution. In a nutshell, organic products whether they be food or beauty products are meant to be free of toxins, preservatives, and toxic chemicals often found in many things we eat and use daily. Organic food is a whole other monster, so for now let’s talk about these toxic free products that I love!

First, a little history. Alba Botanica was founded in 1979 and their mission is simple – to do beautiful while being cruelty free, vegan, natural, and using 100% vegetarian ingredients. They are a division of Avalon Natural Products whose philosophy is that all beauty comes from the earth. They believe in using natural ingredients in all of their products.

This was such an eye opener for me. I decided to go all organic since then and I have never looked back. Every single product I use on my skin and hair is paraben free and organic. Does it cost more than regular products? Not really, because I shop for all of these organic products at TJ Maxx and Marshalls which sell at a discounted price. One of my favorite things to do is to go into these stores and browse the beauty aisles looking for organic skin care. If you guys follow me on Snapchat (NPolishPursuit) or Instagram (@thepolishedpursuit) you know this because I am constantly posting my TJ Maxx/Marshalls shopping trip finds on both Snapchat and IG stories. I always find Alba Botanica products at these stores which is fantastic because I have grown to love them. They also sell them at drug stores, supermarkets and other retailers but I prefer purchasing them at TJ Maxx/Marshalls because they are a bit cheaper. Let’s take a look at a few of my favorites.

This is an oil clearing master cleanse. Powerful yet gentle, this rich lathering cream breaks up oil and deep-set impurities without causing over-sensitivity. This cleanser is enriched with Green Tea and Rice as well as Fruit Acid Detox Fusion. It smells like oranges and lemons. I love love love this cleanser because it is so refreshing and really cleanses my skin. I use it daily.

This is an oil free foaming scrub. Delicious! This gentle scrub contains ground walnut (natural product) to help scrub away dullness, force out impurities, and provide deep down detoxification to your skin. I use this scrub about twice a week.

My current #1 FAVE. This Volcanic Clay hypo-allergenic scrub is UH-MAZING!!! The real volcanic clay in this scrub exfoliates dull surface skin then absorbs and washes away problematic impurities. It contains soothing lotus flower and antioxidant-rich yerba mata to help balance the skin. Can I just re-emphasize how much I love this scrub?! If I have a blemish, pimple, zit – whatever you wanna call it, I do not ever squeeze it. You know if you squeeze you can be left with an infection or worse – a scar. So I never squeeze. What I do is use this scrub and gently rub my blemishes. After I rise, Voila! My blemishes are gone. It is truly amazing. It removes clogged pores with gentle, natural ingredients. I use this scrub 2-3 times per week. I am obsessed.

This is a deep cleansing coconut milk hypo-allergenic cleanser. The bottle is made with 100% recycled material. That’s another thing guys, this brand uses recylced material to make their bottles. Goodness all around! It comes in a pump bottle so it’s easy to apply. It is creamy, rich, and gently washes away any dirt and impurities from your skin. It contains coconut milk and pore-refining papaya enzymes. Revitalizing ginger and soothing aloe balance the skin for a refreshed clean feel. This is an every day cleanser.

This is my go-to facial sunscreen. It contains spf 30 broad spectrum, it’s water resistant (80 minutes), biodegradable, and gluten free. Guys, I cannot stress enough how important it is to protect your skin from the sun! It’s imperative to do so daily even if you aren’t going to the pool or beach. Wear sunscreen daily!!! Why is it also important to use a good, biodegradable sunscreen when you do go to the beach? First off to protect your skin, but secondly so you don’t harm sea life. Did you know that up to 14,000 tons of sunscreen wash off swimmers, scuba divers, and snorkelers into coral reef environments each year? That’s a huge problem because common chemical sunscreen ingredients such as Oxybenzone (Benzophenone-3, BP-3), Butylparaben and Octinoxate (Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate) can bleach and seriously damage coral reefs. (*Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology. October 2015.) We don’t want to do that, now do we? We need coral reefs to protect coastlines from storm surge and spawn fish that keep our ocean environments healthy and diverse. Another reason why this sunscreen is fabulous – it’s safe for your skin and for the reefs.

This is a delicious grapefruit & walnut shell scrub. Alba Botanica doesn’t use plastic beads for their scrubs which is awesome because those plastic beads that other companies use for their scrubs end up down the drain and eventually harming the environment. They believe in using natural products such as the one used in this scrub (walnut shell) for exfoliation. This scrub is made with natural, biodegradable, body-buffing beads. I use this once a week and I love how soft it leaves my skin.

This conditioner gives me life, or gives my hair life I should say. Not only does it insanely moisturize my hair, but it leaves it with a delicious coconut smell that I get complimented on often! This conditioner has no damaging sulfates or drying formaldehydes. It has tons of mega moisture! High in fatty acids and protein, coconut milk locks in moisture to strengthen the cuticle and reduce split ends. They have other amazing conditioners with different scents like Plumeria, Gardenia, and Mango.

These wipes are a makeup remover, cleanser, and toner all in one wipe! They are great for when you’re feeling lazy and don’t want to use soap and water to remove your makeup or to just clean your skin from all the dirt and dust it encounters daily. Fruit enzymes break through oil and grime for a pore-deep clean. Aloe & awapuhi tone balance without tightness. They remove even the toughest water proof makeup.

I tend to forget to pamper my skin by applying face masks but it’s important to do it at least once a week. I love the coconut water one to hydrate and moisturize my skin. It contains coconut water, cucumber, and chamomile. I use the camu camu for anti-wrinkle because I’m in my 30’s. It contains camu camu, cocoa, and caffeine to help firm, tone, and tackle pesky lines and wrinkles. My newest favorite is the Hawaiian detox sheet mask to micro extract the stubborn everyday pollutants. All of these masks are made from natural, sustainably-sourced fiber.
