Hi everyone! It’s funny how life works in mysterious ways. “What’s meant to be will always be” is my motto for many things in life including nail polish! A few days ago my sister was asking me about a holographic nail polish she saw on Instagram that she was loving which sparked a whole history lesson on the OPI Designer Series. These polishes have been on my “want” list forever now. Well I can finally say I own one of them… I will slowly try to collect them all! This is DS Lapis.
This past weekend my boyfriend and I went to eat sushi at one of my favorite sushi places in Miami called Sushi Sake. I always get the same order, the Miami Heat roll. It’s AMAZING. Well, before we had lunch I noticed a cute little beauty supply store I had not been to before so of course my curiosity peaked. I browsed the polish section and found a little basket with clearance polish. Buried way underneath the rubble of old essie’s and OPI’s I found this gem.
DS Lapis is a sapphire blue with tons and tons of silver and blue microglitter. This beauty is a ONE coater! It dries with a “gritty” look but in person it’s actually pretty smooth. It also dries matte which I don’t mind too much since it’s so gorgeous. Once you add a glossy top coat, the obsession is real. There is so much depth to this polish, it looks spectacular! Here is a comparison shot with & without top coat.
I also didn’t have any issues with removal, no glittery mess at all. Just take your cotton ball and do long downward sweeps and you will be fine. This polish is perfect for the holidays!
OPI first launched the Designer Series in 2006 with some glitter and holographic polishes that were a sight for sore eyes. I believe they were some of the first “holo” polishes from a mainstream brand so it was a big deal. So finding this polish was a big deal for me 🙂 DS Lapis is from the Fall 2013 DS Collection Raw Granite set so it’s not too old and still sooo gorgeous! They have silver tops which peel after a while which is why the top of this polish looks so rachet. LOL
The polish my sister found a picture of is DS Original from the first DS launch in 2006 which is very hard to find and very pricey on eBay. I found a bottle for $50! I’ll definitely be on the look out for more of these polishes!
OPI is 3 FREE so it doesn’t contain Formaldehyde, Toluene, or DBP. Not all of OPI’s polishes are 3 FREE but it is said that after 2006 all are 3 FREE. It’s best to check labels if you have a concern. OPI is sold at beauty supply stores, Ulta, Target, drugstores, and Amazon or eBay. Some of the DS series polishes are harder to find especially the older ones.
Do you have any DS polishes? Which one is your favorite?
