Review: Essie Gel Setter top coat

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing with you my review of the new essie gel setter top coat. Essie released this new top coat formula in May 2015. It is designed to seal in color and provide a gel-like finish. Let’s take a look:

I have seen the essie gel setter at drug stores like Walgreens and CVS and I’ve also seen it at Target. They also carry these cute duo set kits with a popular essie polish along with the essie gel setter and they retail for about $15, which in my opinion is a great deal because the essie gel setter is $10 on it’s own so it’s like you are getting an essie polish for $5! I would have bought a set but I already owned all of the polishes that came with the gel setter duo set! #nailpolishbloggerproblems

They also sell the essie gel setter on it’s own. I purchased mine at Target for $10. This top coat is supposed to give you the look of a “gel mani” without needing an LED/UV light lamp which is known to set polish for as long as 14 days. The great thing about this top coat is you can also use it on any polish, not just essie.

I did a little experiment and compared how this top coat would look next to a nail without top coat. Let’s see how well it did on my nails.

It’s not super obvious, but this top coat does give that thick, glossy, gel-like finish. The bottom nail has a more flat finish to it. To be completely honest, I get the same finish using one of my two favorite top coats: HK Girl or Seche Vite and those are fast drying which the essie gel setter isn’t. I would recommend this top coat if you don’t have access to the other top coats I mentioned and you want that thick gel finish look. This top coat is 100 times better than putting your nails under any potential harmful UV light lamp. I’m always sketchy with those lamps.

Have you tried the essie gel setter? What did you think about it?
